Kathy's Bio

Kathy Blee Ashe is a mother, an active community leader, a former educator, and a volunteer. In June of 1991, she was first elected to the Georgia House of Representatives and is currently the Representative for House District 56 …the heart of Atlanta.

As a member of the Georgia House of Representatives, Kathy serves on the Higher Education, Children and Youth, and Interstate Cooperation committees. She is active in the Women’s Caucus and is the Treasurer of the Georgia House Democratic Caucus.

Representative Ashe received her elementary and high school education in the public schools of Tallahassee, Florida. In 1968, she graduated from Agnes Scott College, with a major in sociology. She then earned a Master of Arts in Teaching from Emory University and did further graduate work at Georgia State University. She went on to teach in the Marietta and Cobb County public schools from 1969 to 1977.

Kathy has served in leadership roles in numerous community organizations, including the League of Women Voters, the Junior League of Atlanta, the Atlanta Community Food Bank, the United Way of Atlanta, the Atlanta Women’s Foundation, Vote Choice, the City of Atlanta Charter Review Commission, The Children's School, and the Central Health Center. She is a member of Leadership Atlanta (1988), the Regional Leadership Institute (1994), the Atlanta Women's Network, the Georgia Conservancy, the Georgia Trust for Historic Preservation, Planned Parenthood of Atlanta, and the Agnes Scott College Board of Trustees. Her most recent appointment was to the Steering Committee for the Education of the States. She is also an active member of Central Presbyterian Church, where she serves as an elder and teaches 4 and 5-year-old Sunday school.

Kathy has been married to Lawrence Ashe, an attorney, since 1972. The Ashes have two children. Robbie, a 1997 Dartmouth graduate, is the Intergovernmental Affairs Manager for the City of Atlanta. Sally, a 2000 Wellesley College graduate, teaches at the McLean School in Maryland, and is married to Scott Wood.
